Average Blood Sugar (Hemoglobin A1C)

To help manage your diabetes it is important to keep your blood sugar levels as close to normal as possible.  For this reason, people with diabetes should have their blood sugar levels tested at least twice a year.  This is called a hemoglobin A1c test.  Learn more about the A1C test from the American Diabetes Association.

The goal is for patients with diabetes to keep their A1C levels below 7 percent.

  • Less than 7 percent is good control
  • 7-9 percent is borderline and cause for concern
  • 9 percent and above is out of control

See how each practice and their patients are working toward checking average blood sugar levels (A1C) regularly and keeping those levels under control.

Patients with diabetes whose average blood sugar level (A1C) was tested during the past year
Patients with diabetes with good control over blood sugar levels (A1C), measuring below 7%
Patients with diabetes with out of control average blood sugar levels (A1C), measuring above 9%
